This book catalogs and classifies the historical knowledge of earth science, with particular attention to the geological record left by the succession of living beings through vast epochs. The author seeks to arrange these traces into discernible patterns, leading to a fuller understanding of the planet and its deep history. The concepts presented in this book form the core of modern stratigraphic geology, a science which seeks to interpret the history of the earth from the clues left in the rocks that comprise it. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
