A handsome copy of the correspondence of two French diplomats, Claude de Mesmes, comte d'Avaux (1595â"1650) and Abel Servien, marquis de Sablà et de Boisdauphin (1593-1659), involved in negotiations at Munster which eventually led to the Peace of Westphalia, ending the Thirty Years' War, from the library of Scottish philosopher, politician and poet Sir Gilbert Elliot, 3rd baronet and Lord Minto (1722-1777). This correspondence deals with the disputes which opposed the two ambassadors of France to Munster, and on the preparation of the Treaty of Westphalia whose negotiations took place in 1644, at Munster for the Catholics, at Osnabrück for the Protestants.
