A trifle rubbed to extremities, joints creased, else a crisp copy. From Lord Minto's library, with his armorial case/shelf book label (with the motto "credunt quod vident") above the modern bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst) to FEP. A handsome copy of the correspondence of two French diplomats, Claude de Mesmes, comte d'Avaux (1595â"1650) and Abel Servien, marquis de Sablà et de Boisdauphin (1593-1659), involved in negotiations at Munster which eventually led to the Peace of Westphalia, ending the Thirty Years' War, from the library of Scottish philosopher, politician and poet Sir Gilbert Elliot, 3rd baronet and Lord Minto (1722-1777). White stains one centimeter in diameter on about ten leaves with letters sometimes faded. Work rebound with renewed endpapers. This correspondence deals with the disputes which opposed the two ambassadors of France to Munster, and on the preparation of the Treaty of Westphalia whose negotiations took place in 1644, at Munster for the Catholics, at Osnabrück for the Protestants. The Treaty of Westphalia was signed in 1648, ending two major conflicts, the Thirty Years' War, and the war opposing the Netherlands to Spain, a war which is often mentioned in this collection. * (2) 211pp. ; (2) 62pp.

La seconde plaquette, sans titre, présente le traité proposé par Servien. Elle commence par « Le 22 de May de l'An présent 1647 fut communiqué? ». Le litige sera réglé au profit du seul Abel Servien (1593-1659), qui utilisa le crédit de Hugues de Lionne, son neveu, pour obtenir, le 13 mars 1648, le rappel du comte d?Avaux avec qui il était en conflit ouvert puis, le 20 mars 1648, les pleins pouvoirs pour traiter seul de la paix.
