Diferentes formulações de filmes foram preparadas de forma simples através da 'técnica de moldagem por solvente'. Os filmes eram adequados para aplicação intra-bolsa, sendo suficientemente rígidos para serem facilmente inseridos na bolsa periodontal. Imediatamente após a aplicação, hidratam-se pela ação do fluido crevicular gengival, formando um gel bioadesivo que permite que a formulação aceda a toda a bolsa. Os filmes exibiram um padrão de libertação sustentada. O estudo de estabilidade para a fórmula selecionada (Tc HCl/Na CMC) indicou que o período de armazenamento de cinco meses não influenciou significativamente o comportamento de libertação do fármaco ou a sua atividade antibacteriana. A avaliação clínica indicou que o filme foi bem tolerado, não tendo sido relatados pelos participantes sinais de irritação ou sensação prolongada de corpo estranho, tendo-se observado uma redução significativa na profundidade da bolsa.
