Maij" (so he bought and began to read it in the month of may 1583, likely a very few times afterwards that the book was printed, as edited in that same year 1583); the second at the end of the text, leaf 108r: "Legebat Joannes Leo Sigandius eques iterum 1583 die 27 Aug.ti" (so he ended to read it the 27th august of the same year). Title-page with printer's device, leaves 4 not numb. (including the author's woodcut portrait at recto of fol. *3), leaves 108 numb., 18 nn. for index (last one containing the errata). First edition, rare, of this dissertation on the game of chess as a metaphor for society. It studies the rules of chess and their equivalents in law, politics and morals.
