Frontispiece still has tissue guard and the foldout map and the rear of the book is still present. Pages are tone due to age and there is some spotting and foxing. James David Forbes (1808-1868) was a famous Scottish scientist and explorer, whose views on the theory of glaciers conflicted with Tyndell's. Appendix A contains his reply to Tindall.
