The work examines Pîrî Reis's life and oeuvre, Ottoman-Turkish naval supremacy in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and his major geographical writings including the Bahriye (Aegean and Mediterranean Pilot). It presents detailed analyses of his 1513 world map, the first to depict America, and the 1528 world map showing North America, compares his maps with contemporaneous cartographic works, and includes a catalogue of manuscript copies of the Bahriye, accompanied by a bibliography.

Bahriye in its two recensions, the 1513 world map depicting America, the 1528 world map, and a comparative study of his maps alongside other early sixteenth-century cartographic works. The volume concludes with the author's lectures on Pîrî Reis delivered in Geneva and Ankara (1937), contemporary press notices, a catalogue of Bahriye manuscripts, and a comprehensive bibliography.
