IMPORTANCE When Harry Ahearn's Ghetto Fire Fighter (heavily influenced from his own experiences as a firefighter in NYC) was first published over forty-six years ago, it quickly became one of the most popular books ever published about the New York City Fire Department. After all, fighting fires in New York was unlike fighting fires anywhere else on earth - and fighting fires in Harlem was unlike fighting fires anywhere else in New York City. Published in 1977 by Vantage Press. In original black boards with silver spine lettering and original unclipped dust jacket. 156 pages. Octavo. First edition, first printing. First edition stated on copyright page. CONDITION REPORT The book is in NEAR FINE condition. Square spine with firm hinges and joints and tight pages. Unfaded, colorful black boards. Spine tips not pushed in and corners are sharp. No dust on all-black boards. A small, clear stain on front board and light shelf rubbing to board edges else FINE. Interior is AS NEW - no writing, marks, stamps or ex libris marks. Crisp, bright white pages with no foxing or wear. The dust jacket is in NEAR FINE condition. Unclipped, colorful and unfaded and not sun toned (as it often is). Iconic and dramatic cover art. Minimal edge wear. No rips or tears. One small chip from crown of spine, only a few spots of dust soiling (which is quite nice, given the all-white jacket) and initials in ink above price on front flap else FINE.
