Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Plates are bright and clear. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Book has a slight forward lean. Unclipped jacket has light edge-wear with tears and creasing. Moderate tanning to spine.

Very good and sound burgandy cloth with gilt titles and Horsham lion rampant to front board. Introduction by Hilaire Belloc. Mr. Albery's remarkably able and complete account of Horsham elections and members through' six centuries is of great interest. In particular he describes very clearly the peculiar franchise by burgage tenure but dependent also on admission to the lord's court-which was customary in Horsham, and he explains the method by which Horsham in the early eighteenth century was transformed into a pocket borough of the Irwin family. ; 357 pages.

There are a number of tables inside and a few line engravings. Internally generally very clean with some light spotting and marking - mainly confined to the first and last few pages. Beautifully illustrated by Polish-born Andrzej Krauze, a British cartoonist, illustrator, caricaturist, painter, poster designer and satirist noted for his allegorical, fabulous, symbolic and sometimes scary imagery. Between 1986 and 1990 he designed posters for London's Old Vic theatre, then under the artistic directorship of Jonathan Miller. We have a series of 13 of these posters which were individually commissioned by Jonathan Miller. We also hold in stock 30'' x 20'' posters by this artist. In Fine condition.
