In 1935, at 22 years old, within an hour, Jesse set 3 world records at the Big Ten track meet, Ann Arbor, Michigan — hailed by many as "the greatest 45 minutes ever in sport". Then, the very next year, Jesse won 4 gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany to be celebrated as the black- American who "single-handedly" crushed Hitler's myth of "Aryan supremacy".
