With extra engraved full-page title, oval cartouche on both titles, 14 full-page engravings by Arnold v. Westerhout, Jacob Freij and others, after Josef Passarus, 10 near half-page engraved end-pieces (2 signed by J. Freij, 1 by M. Schedl), wood-engraved historiate and foliate capital initials in both red and black. Contemporary red morocco with richly ornate gilt floral designs on covers and spine, edges gilt; spine end and corners repaired. An attractive rococo missal with elaborate contemporary gilt floral binding. The work bears a short dedicatory preface by the publishers and reference to the Papal Bull of Pius V. The illustrations depict biblical stories and allegorical representations of the Virgin s life, the extra title is a fine interpretation of God appearing to Adam and Eve in the garden with the serpent, the engraver Westerhout has dedicated the work to Ferdinand, Prince of the Etruscans. The end-pieces generally show putti with allegorical emblems, one or two are metaphors of self-sacrifice (the pelican with her young). Binding worn, else Well preserved. Signed by Author(s).
