Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes the reader on a thrilling journey through the unforgiving beauty of the Arctic, recounting the experiences of a group of explorers who sailed from Quebec in 1912 in search of gold. The author, a seasoned adventurer himself, provides a vivid account of their perilous voyage, their encounters with the Inuit people, and their struggle to survive the harsh conditions of the frozen North. The book's historical significance lies in its firsthand description of the challenges faced by early explorers, a time when the quest for the Northwest Passage and the search for the elusive Franklin expedition gripped the imagination of the world. The author's detailed descriptions of whale hunting, the natural history of the Arctic, and the traditions of the Inuit people add a layer of rich detail and insight into the lives of those who dared to venture into these remote and unforgiving lands. Readers will gain a profound understanding of the perils, the beauty, and the enduring power of the human spirit that drove these men to explore the farthest reaches of the Earth. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In 1912 Captain J. E. Bernier purchased the Minnie Maud to mount a gold-prospecting expedition to North Baffin Island. The nine men of the expedition included Alfred Tremblay, who undertook several overland journeys during the time that the ship was moored at Albert Harbour, on Pond Inlet. Tremblay explored Eclipse Sound, Admiralty Inlet, Cockburn land, Fury and Hecla Strait, and Melville Peninsula, and he successfully reached Igloolik, only the second white man to do so since Parry in 1822-3. By the time Tremblay returned to Bernier's base, he had been given up for dead, but he had made the most significant contribution to the land exploration of the Arctic ever achieved by an individual.…
