From the library of Clive Hirschhorn, theatre critic at the Sunday Express from 1966 to 1995, and a noted book collector of 20th century authors, with his collection including all the major works of Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Steinbeck and others. Draft script for an unproduced play. Based on the 1937 novel by Daniel Fuchs, about a small-town racketeer who suffers a mental breakdown when his turf is threatened by a ruthless, sinister gangster. The novel was later adapted into the 1947 film noir "The Gangster," with a screenplay written by Fuchs and Dalton Trumbo. Set in the fictional boardwalk town of Neptune Beach, Brooklyn.
