Paperback, folded chapbook. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Direct reprint in full color of the original antique book (illustrator). Modern reprint, no edition stated. 28 pages including covers. Paper / Soft cover edition in very good, like new condition. Firmly readable. Flex covers, staple bound chapbook style, a sturdy book. Overall great reprint copy, a delightful book with minimal wear. General bookshop wear, may have some slight wear to edges and spine, stored flat. Would make a great gift for the fan in your life, even if that's you. Direct reprint from the original antique children's book. It's original format was an accordion style, double sided frieze. Planographic or lithographic illustrations on paper were adhered to buckram cloth and then folded into itself. This book has been reformatted to a regular book style. There was no page for the the letter "W" as this book is of French origin and there were no words in the French language begin with a "W". The publisher has added a "W" to the book to match the other pages as even today there are very few words in French starting with that letter. The French call it a "double-v" not a "double-u".It's charming and wonderful, and can be enjoyed by children, linguists and artists of all ages. You'll notice that some of the illustrations are colored in, which are original to the source text. Clean and unmarked. Text is in French and English, modern undated edition. A true delight. 24 p. Book.
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Boston: Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Company, 1860. Undated [1860]. Worn but sound ABC book with a short verse, four-line verse and animal woodcut for each letter in the alphabet. Includes some animals not typically found in such books: "N is a Nyl Ghau, Half ox and half deer; On the far plains of Hindostan, He roams without fear"; "J is a Jaguar, A Brazilian beast; On the flesh of wild deer He loves well to feast"; "P is a Prongbuck, On the western plain, He flies o'er the ground, Like a ship on the main"; and our favorite "V is a Vampire, A bloodsucking bat. He's as large as a pigeon And bites like a rat". Red blindstamped cloth with gilt lettered and decorated spine with Young People's Library at the top, includes woodcut frontis and title page in addition to the animal woodcuts, plus four additional title pages with three frontis woodcuts for different titles at the rear, all dated 1860, presumably publisher's ads. Hard Cover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
Einrisse alt hinterlegt.
