Als Junglehrer geht er von 1872 bis 1874 an die Bürgerschule in Schmölln, danach für zwei Jahre an das Karolinum in Altenburg. Ab 1876 ist er am Altenburger Lehrerseminar selbst als Unterrichtender tätig, insgesamt 43 Jahre bis zu seiner Pensionierung 1919. (.) 1917 verlieh ihm Herzog Ernst den Professorentitel für seine Verdienste um die Bildung der Jugend."
