One half of the prize was awarded jointly to Esaki and Giaever "for their experimental discoveries regarding tunneling phenomena in semiconductors and superconductors, respectively".

I have a numer of these on hand and hve been asking $ 50 each for them. Gratings similar to these I think are used in some of the other departments of your company, I can send one to you if you care to see what they look like. I should imagine that 15,000 would be even better than 7500 for photographic training." - Wood was an American physicist and inventor who made pivotal contributions to the field of optics. He pioneered infrared and ultraviolet photography. Wood's patents and theoretical work inform modern understanding of the physics of ultraviolet light, and made possible myriad uses of UV fluorescence, which became popular after World War I. He published many articles on spectroscopy, phosphorescence, diffraction, and ultraviolet light.

I am sure you will find these books in every great university library or, at least, in the Library of Congress in Washington." - Franck was a German-American physicist who shared the 1925 Nobel Prize in Physics with Gustav Ludwig Hertz "for their discovery of the laws governing the impact of an electron upon an atom". He completed his doctorate in 1906 and his habilitation in 1911 at the Frederick William University in Berlin, where he lectured and taught until 1918, having reached the position of professor extraordinarius. He served as a volunteer in the German Army during World War I. He was seriously injured in 1917 in a gas attack and was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class.

Nice head and shoulders photograph of the physicist. - Maria Goeppert Mayer was a German-American atomic and nuclear physicist who shared the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physics with J. Hans D. Jensen and Eugene Wigner. One half of the prize was awarded jointly to Goeppert Mayer and Jensen for their model of the atomic nucleus. She was the second woman to win a Nobel Prize in Physics, the first being Marie Curie in 1903. In 1986, the Maria Goeppert-Mayer Award for early-career women physicists was established in her honor.

I think that you are quite right to want to get a definite clarification of this matter.In urging that the clearance question should be settled with all possible speed, I am of course using the argument that you are needed here in Livermore very badly. We hope that as soon as we have your clearance, we shall be able to make plans for an extended visit for you at Livermore and have your full cooperation here, at least for several months. Of course, it would be by far best from our point of view if you could make up your mind, if you come, to work here full time and permanently [the previous two words added in holograph] and I should not be at all suprised if you would find it sufficiently interesting so that you would want to do that. It is necessary, however, that you should make up your mind about that until after you have got here and had a chance to get acquainted with our work, which would take a period perhaps such as three months or a full summer.When I talked with you on the phone I believe that I mentioned to you that we are trying to maintain good liaison with Berkeley and that the theorists working here are encouraged to spend their time to some extent with work of the Radiation Laboratory in Berkely.
