This book is a valuable historical account of the impoverishment of the Church of England clergy from its earliest days to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The author provides a detailed overview of the various factors that contributed to this decline, including the loss of tithes and other revenues to monastic bodies, the dissolution of the monasteries, and the greed of the laity. The book also explores the impact of the Reformation on the clergy, and the various attempts that were made to improve their lot. It concludes by arguing that the impoverishment of the clergy was a significant factor in the decline of the Church of England in the 16th and 17th centuries. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
