Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 25 x 29 cm, 224 Seiten/pages - The title Academy of Tal R should be understood as a mildly humorous provocation, since Tal R's artwork always appears free, wild, searching, vital and simply unacademic. Through an overview of his work from the past twenty years and a series of new works, the exhibition showed that Tal R from the outset has been a storyteller with a special eye for the overlooked, hidden and repressed spaces of modern life. In his art and thinking, Tal R is constantly interested in everything that goes against conformity.

Paperback. Condition: New. Languages of Exile examines the relationship between geographic and linguistic border crossings in twentieth-century literature. Like no period before it, the last century was marked by the experience of expatriation, forcing exiled writers to confront the fact of linguistic difference. Literary writing can be read as the site where that confrontation is played out aesthetically - at the intersection between native and acquired language, between indigenous and alien, between self and other - in a complex multilingual dynamic specific to exile and migration. The essays collected here explore this dynamic from a comparative perspective, addressing the paragons of modernism as well as less frequently studied authors, from Joseph Conrad and Peter Weiss to Agota Kristof and Malika Mokeddem. The essays are international in their approach; they deal with the junctions and gaps between English, French, German, Hungarian, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and other languages. The literary works and practices addressed include modernist poetry and prose, philosophical criticism and autobiography, DADA performance, sound art and experimental music theatre. This volume reveals both the wide range of creative strategies developed in response to the interstitial situation of exile and the crucial role of exile for a renewed understanding of twentieth-century literature.

Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by Anders Zorn (illustrator). First Edition. 1. Publisher's printed boards, black lettering on spine and cover. Profusely illustrated with 100 beautiful, full-page reproductions of etchings by Anders Zorn. Zorn's reputation was generally derived from his work as a portrait painter. Many of his portraits were painted in the United States, where he gained an almost unbelievable success. Bankers, captains of industry and politicians were prepared to pay astronomical sums to be painted by him. He painted portraits of Grover Cleveland (National Portrait Galley, Washington DC) and William Taft (The White House, Washington DC). A portrait of a third president Theodore Roosevelt was made by Zorn in the form of an etching. It was Zorn's etchings that contributed particularly to his success. With Rembrandt as his artistic role model he developed a masterful etching technique where he builds up his motif with a multitude of lines. In total he produced 289 different etched works. 100 of them are reproduced in the present volume. . Spine almost gone, boards rubbed and soiled, interior tight, square and clean; all illustrations clean and bright. VERY GOOD. . Arnolds Graphische Bucher Series. Etchings.
