Scheler dans ses annotations à Tchemerzine, de l'un des textes fondamentaux de la pensée politique de Fénelon, qu'il composa pour l'instruction du Dauphin. Cet essai avait été préalablement publié en 1734 à 150 exemplaires sous le titre de 'Examen de conscience pour un Roi', joint aux 'Aventures de Télémaque'. Il suscita la fureur de Louis XIV, fut interdit par ordre et supprimé des exemplaires de 'Télémaque'. Il fallut attendre cette année 1747 pour qu'il soit réimprimé. (France Littéraire, III, 99. Peignot, 'Livres interdits', 140. Tchemerzine-Scheler, III, 234). Exemplaire enrichi d'un portrait frontispice de Fénelon d'après Joseph Vivien, gravé par P. Dupin. Provenance: "Madame Roland de Challerange, conseillère au Parlement", avec son grand ex-libris gravé armorié (XVIIIe). Très bon exemplaire, très bien relié à l'époque.
