Dark red embossed cloth, gilt embossed FLS letters on front cover (Folk Lore Society). Dulled gilt spine title with the 1879 date and FSL at foot of spine cloth. Two tiny punctures at lower spine cloth; gently bumped corners and just starting to fray crown and tail of spine edges.(see photo) Original brown end-papers (Dark brown front free end paper is detached and laid in). A 'erratum' slip tipped in, just after the eight page preface, by A. LANG.(Andrew Lang, who is best known for collecting folk and fairy tales) 250 pages plus a twenty-one page "First Annual Report of The Council, 29 May, 1879, at rear. A blank end-paper is just starting to pull away. otherwise a tight copy. Interior pages are clean and tight throughout - no foxing, just mild age-toning to margins. Fabulous source material on superstitions; old ballads and fairy tales and lore. Hard to find title.…
