Auden, Bob Cobbing, Robert Graves, Jeni Couzyn, Stephen Spender, Peter Redgrove, Norman MacCaig, Vernon Scannell, C. Day Lewis, George Barker, Dannie Abse, Adrian Mitchell and Peter Porter each contribute one poem. Each contribution is preceded by a black and white photograph of the respective author together with short biographical details.
