No Binding. Condition: Very Good. A splendid 1858 printing of a pencil drawing done for the Anastatic Drawing Society . Mounted (matted) and ready to frame . Very good condition . Printed 1858. Drawn by Mrs Strickland, this drawing shows the church at Applegirth, Dumfriesshire, with the venerable ash tree, known as the Gorget Tr…ee, at the gate. When the tree was partially blown down in 1850, a set of Jougs was revealed, being a type of restraint for punishing recalicatrant members of the congregation. A separate print shows the jougs found in the tree - reminiscent of a slave neck-ring.
