Add to basketFirst edition of this trilingual dictionary of postal terms, issued for internal use. The first volume, in two parts, is organized in English and French alphabetical order; the second follows the Arabic. We have only traced one institutional copy, at the Library of Congress. It provides parallel translations for hundreds of postal terms and phrases, as simple as "surcharge" or "damaged" and as technical as "cancellation of the trade charge" and "apportionment of the costs". The Arab Postal Union had been established in Damascus in 1952, to oversee and facilitate postal services within the Arab League states, where English, French, and Arabic were all used. 2 vols, quarto. Text in English, French, and Arabic, in three columns. Original quarter black cloth, red printed wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. Extremities a trifle rubbed, the odd internal mark: very good copies.

This guide covers the stamps of the UAE and five of the individual emirates, along with those of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Republic (Egypt), and the other Arab League members. These include multiple countries' independence stamps, those printed to celebrate the Olympics, and many featuring portraits of famous leaders like Sheikh Zayed. The catalogue contains all the stamps issued by each country up until 1973. Other famous occasions celebrated include the wedding of King Hussein of Jordan in 1955, the landing of the Apollo 11 mission on the moon (p. 76), the "March 8 Revolution" in Syria, and the 1970 Osaka World Expo. Each stamp is listed with its year of issue, identification number, and value in the local currency. Quarto. Half-tone photographic illustrations of stamps throughout; text in Arabic, English, and French. Original yellow coated wrappers, spine and wrappers lettered and decorated in black, cream coated endpapers. Spine ends chipped and repaired, wrappers scuffed and creased: a very good copy.
