Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an extract from a play that takes place during the Prussian-Austrian war. A young woman named Gretchen is in love with a grenadier named Theobald and wants to elope with him. But her father, a watchman in the town, has promised her to another man. When Theobald comes to Gretchen's rescue, her father mistakes him for an enemy and shoots him, thinking he has killed him. But Theobald survived and returns to town as the leader of a battalion of grenadiers. Gretchen's father asks for Theobald's forgiveness and gives his blessing for the marriage. The book is a celebration of love, courage, and redemption. It shows how even in the midst of war, love can conquer all. The book is a fascinating look at life in a small town during wartime and the sacrifices that people were willing to make for love and country. It is a story of courage, resilience, and the power of love. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on a period of immense social and political upheaval in a small German village in the mid-19th century. The author transports the reader to a time of great transition when the rise of industrialization brought with it new ideas about freedom, equality, and the role of government. Villagers struggle with the tension between tradition and progress, and their hopes are raised by the arrival of a charismatic young man named Volhmar. Volhmar promises to bring about a new era of prosperity and justice, but his radical ideas soon meet resistance from the village's conservative leaders. The clash between these opposing forces culminates in a violent confrontation that forces the villagers to confront the true nature of their community and their own values. This book delves into the complexities of human nature, exploring the themes of power, ambition, and the limits of idealism. It offers a thought-provoking examination of the challenges and opportunities that arise when a society grapples with the forces of change. Through its rich cast of characters and vivid depiction of a pivotal moment in history, this book sheds light on the enduring human quest for a just and equitable world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Bestätigt der Schlesinger'schen Buch- und Musikalienhandlung in Berlin den Erhalt der vereinbarten Honorare für einige seiner Kompositionen, darunter ein Marsch über die Römische Volkshymne f. unbound. 2 pages (front and back) measuring 8.75 x 5.5 inches, Berlin, April 30, 1861. Written on fine gray onionskin paper and signed "A. Conradi." German composer and conductor of opera and symphonies. Born in Berlin, Conradi was originally intended by his father to study theology. Instead, he was enrolled at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. There he studied harmony and composition with Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen, director of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin. In 1843, he became a church organist of Invalidenhaus, Berlin, also writing his first symphony plus a Zigeunerpolka for orchestra the same year. The latter was arranged for piano by Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt. Conradi held various conducting appointments; these included Stettin (1849), Berlin (1850), Dusseldorf (1852), and Cologne (1853), then Berlin again at such theaters as Kroll's, the Wallner-Theater and the Victoria-Theater.
