Hardcover. Condition: About Very Good. This now classic volume covers every aspect of the violin -- its origin and evolution, its history, its music and virtuosos, its construction and manufacture -- and has become the standard reference on the instrument since originally published in 1925. This copy is a First U.S. Edition, Second Printing (with the numeral "2" found on the last page of the text). About 6 x 8 3/4 inches, 479 pages plus two pages of publisher's ads, including an introduction by Eugene Ysaye. Translated by Frederick H. Martens. Liberally illustrated, with a frontispiece of Esaye. Bound in green cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on front cover and spine and small graphic design featuring violin centered on front cover. No dustjacket. Some light foxing and age-tanning on text edges and endpapers, and it appears frontispiece page has been trimmed a fraction of an inch, o/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked. Book shows only a minimum of surface soiling and edgewear, no creasing or tearing, not remaindered, not ex-library. A collectable copy as well as a useful reference.
