Studies in Pre-Columbian Art and Archaeology, number nine. First edition. There is general agreement that Mesoamerican and Central andean peoples must have influenced one another to some degree before the Spanish conquest. Yet the specific participants and the exact nature of their contact remains in doubt. A brief review of the more salient instances of suspected PreClassic connections between the cultures of these two areas will prepare the ground for the primary purpose of this paper, which is to trace the origin of certain possible exotic components of a single art style, that of Izapa. Condition: Near fine.
