En las dos últimas décadas del siglo XX, el diseño gráfico (al menos el occidental) ha sufrido importantes transformaciones, quizá solamente equiparables a las que se produjeron con la invención de la imprenta. La…irrupción en el mundo del diseño, en 1984, de una nueva herramienta -el ordenador Macintosh- supuso un cambio notable no sólo en los métodos de trabajo sino también en las concepciones estéticas, pues posibilitó una serie de usos que abocaron a la exploración de nuevos recursos formales. Llegó a hablarse del MacStyle, un estilo a partir de las posibilidades que ofrecía el Mac y sus programas: tipografías deformadas, letras tridimensionales y/o sombreadas, imágenes superpuestas, borrosas o pixeladas, etc., que definiría la segunda mitad de los años ochenta y una buena parte de la década de los noventa. Pero el Macintosh, además, hizo su aparición en una época de debate -especialmente marcada por el postestructuralismo que alcanzó a todos los ámbitos del diseño y en la que se replantearon temas tan diversos como el de su lenguaje y su construcción, su papel como transmisor de ideas y mensajes, el lugar de la historia -su uso y abuso, su invención y reinvención-, las relaciones con la publicidad, los vínculos con la cultura popular y con el desarrollo tecnológico -en un contexto continuamente cambiante- y, finalmente, el posicionamiento ético y la responsabilidad social del diseñador. 220 pp. 26 x 21.
