Leather. Condition: Good. The complete four volume set of these memoirs by Charles-Lewis, Baron de Pollnitz. The second edition of this work, which was originally issued in two volumes. These four volumes are the observations the Baron of Pollnitz made during his late travels from Prussia through Germany, Italy, France, Holland, England an d more. They are told through his letters to his friends and notable members in various courts. The ESTC notes that the translator of these four volumes is Stephen Whatley. Whatley translated these works from their original French into English. To this second edition, the punctuation after 'Flanders' is a full stop to volume I and a comma to volume II. The first volume has 'Black Swan' without a hyphen and volume II with a hyphen. ESTC No. T220401. There is an ESTC entry for all four volumes which is T207534. This has the first two volumes dated 1739 and the final two dated 1740 like our copies. With a half-title to volume III only. Bookplate to the front pastedown of Christopher Hogwood. Hogwood was an English conductor, and harpsichordist. He founded the 'Academy of Ancient Music' and was a leading authority on historically informed performance.
