Light foxing, small light spot where ink drop wiped off title page, light shelf-rubbing along edges otherwise very good. Title-page and last leaf a little browned but otherwise very good internally.nThe Vlacq reprint, the same year as the Copenhagen original, and having the same plates. Bartholin's important work containing 200 case studies of anomalies of nature, people with birth defects.

Rebound in recent cloth with morocco title label; engraved title plus 9 engravings, of which 2 are folding. Additional in-text woodcuts scattered throughout. Complete. Preliminary leaves and final leaves of the index are a bit edgeworn and toned else generally clean throughout. This is the first of a three-volume history by the Danish physician comprising case studies of anatomical anomalies with descriptions and illustrations. This Copenhagen edition is thought to precede another 1654 edition issued in Amsterdam. Both are uncommon. The subsequent volumes of Bartholin's work were issued in 1657 and 1661. Text in Latin. Professional tissue repairs to top edges of first five leaves, and to some of the foldout plates. Superb plates, and contents overall very good, with minor toning or soiling to the margins, and, in some cases, a small tide stain. In recent quarter calf, spine titled and ruled in gilt, with marbled boards with corners of vellum. A beautiful copy.
