A very scarce tribute to Robert Bloomfield, 'The Suffolk Poet', containing an extract from a newspaper obituary, an elegiac letter, and three tributary verses by Bernard Barton, 'The Quaker Poet', geo…logist and clergyman William Branthwaite Clarke, and writer William Fletcher.In the publisher's original cloth, with blind stamp detail.Contains a 1953 newspaper clipping of when Shefford Secondary modern school was named after Bloomfield.Robert Bloomfield was a self-educated working class poet, most famous for writing the rural poem 'The Farmer's Boy'. The purpose of The Tributary Verses was to preserve the memory of Robert Bloomfield as an important literary figure in Suffolk.There is only institutional copy of this tribute, held at the British Library. Externally, mostly smart, with slight rubbing to joints and extremities. A small mark to bottom right of front board. Minimal signs of shelf wear. End papers are generally clean, with very faint offsetting and spotting. Previous owner's bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Heavy spotting to first and final leaves. Leaves ix-pp.26 are generally bright and clean. Good. None (illustrator). book.
