Es handelt sich um kostbare Alphabet- und Schreibmeisterbücher, die zumeist nur noch in wenigen Exemplaren erhalten sind und die diese Reihe erneut zum Anschauen und Staunen vorlegt. In ihnen repräsentiert sich die ganze Welt auf eigenwillige Art und Weise. Die Buchstaben sind nicht mehr bloß Träger abstrakter Bedeutung, sondern auch sinnlich-bildhafter oder kalligraphischer Ausdruck einer Epoche. Sie verdichten sich zu einem spezifischen Zeit-Zeichen. Der Letter als Text wird die Letter als Bild entgegengesetzt. Begriffe werden Bilder, Bilder werden Begriffe; utpicturapoesis (. .auf dass das Bild Dichtung sei, und umgekehrt). Mit der Bezeichnung Alfabeto pittonco ist dieses Alphabet von Antonio Basoli eine ziemliche Untertreibung. Was uns der Prospekt- und Dekorationsmaler aus Bologna im damals neuen Steindruckverfahren vorführt, ist nicht bloss ein malerisches Alphabet mit dekorativen Szenen, sondern seine riesigen plein-air-Szenanen zelebrieren jeweils einen kleinen enzyklopädischen Kosmos zu einem fiktiven Überbegriff. Das eklektische, an 26 Beispielen exemplifizierte Bildprogramm ist mehr als nur ein kurioses Beispiel des sich anbahnenden Historismus; es ist ein individuelles Zeugnis interpretierender Bildforschung. Alle im Italienischen und z. T. aus der Landessprache des angesiedelten fiktiven Ortes entlehnten Fachtermini werden wie in einem Fachbildwörterbuch zugleich als Bilder ins Buchstabendekor eingebaut. senza rilegatura. Condition: ottimo. Acquaforte misure: mm 135 x 211 Scenografo, decoratore e pittore, figura di spicco della pittura neoclassica italiana. Si forma inizialmente presso la bottega del padre, e dal 1786 al 1794 frequenta l'Accademia Clementina. Fondamentale per la sua formazione di ornatista è stato frequentare la bottega di Petronio Fancelli (1737 - 1800). Ha lavorato per un breve periodo presso il Teatro Italiano a San Pietroburgo. Nel 1801 viene chiamato a Trieste per la decorazione di tre camere di casa Muratori e una volta rientrato a Bologna diventa nel 1803 professore di ornato presso l'Accademia cittadina. Nel 1805 si trova a Roma città che gli offre molti spunti tanto da tornare con un numero cospicuo di appunti, disegni e libri. A partire dal 1796 e per oltre quarant'anni realizza, come pittore di scene teatrali, una vasta produzione che oggi conosciamo grazie alle serie di incisioni di sua mano o di suoi seguaci. Succedette ad Alessandro Sanquirico come capo scenografo al Teatro alla Scala di Milano. Questa serie, senza data ma concordemente da collocare al 1810, rientra in quell'ampia produzione di raccolte che l'artista realizza per diffondere la propria fama e i propri pensieri, educare allievi e amatori d'arte. La serie completa è composta dal frontespizio e da 50 scenografie di piccolo formato incise al tratto. Numerate in basso a destra presentano il titolo inciso in basso al centro oltre la cornice di inquadramento. Paesaggi, case, architetture, giardini sono descritti con un tratto netto e deciso, un ampio ventaglio di idee portatile. Ottime impressioni su carta avorio, ampi margini editoriali. Leggero ingiallimento omogeneo. I fogli si presentano montati in piccole cornici moderne color noce.
