In a contemporary full calf binding. A presentation copy, inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper: "The Rev. L. Ottley, from the Author." Nine scarce pamphlets bound in one, comprising six charges and related proceedings delivered to the clergy of the Archdeaconry of Salop in the Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, together with three sermons by Edward Bather. The volume includes Bather"s visitation charges for 1829, 1830, 1831, 1833, and 1834, addressing questions of clerical duty, infidelity and "infidel publications," church establishments, church reform, and the separation of Church and State. Also included are the 1834 Proceedings of the Clergy in the Archdeaconry of Salop, his 1832 sermon for the consecration of St. George"s Church, Shrewsbury, his funeral sermon for the Rev. John Mayor of Shawbury, and a sermon preached before the Church Missionary Society at St Andrew, Holborn. Edward Bather (1779-1847) was Archdeacon of Salop and Vicar of Meole Brace, Shropshire. With the ink ownership inscription of Eva B. Bather to the front free endpaper, possibly a member of the Bather family. In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally, smart.
