Bekannt wurde er durch eine Rede, die er als Vertreter des Herzogs auf dem Konzil von Trient hielt und offen über die bei den Visitationen von 1558-60 zutagegetretenen Mißstände beim bayerischen Klerus klagte und dringende Reformen forderte, darunter die Priesterehe und die Gewährung des Abendmahls in beiderlei Gestalt.
