In the original translation, the translator worked with the author to eliminate some text of purely Swedish geographical interest. Beige cloth boards show a repeating image in orange of a boy skating. Blue tiles. The blue dust jacket shows an images of people skating at a winter fair. The authoress Mary Mapes Dodge was a friend of Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. They worked together on the weekly journal Hearth and Home. Though she wrote several other books, this is her best known, and best loved, book. It was originally published in 1865. There are eight full-colour illustrations and 25 line drawings in the text. Condition of book: Very Good. The cover is clean and barely worn. The pages are unmarked and un-thumbed. The first end paper and the title page are very faintly foxed. There are two inked marks on the first endpaper, where something, perhaps an owners name or a price, has been erased. Condition of jacket: The jacket is complete. The spine is a little faded; the top and bottom of the spine, and corners, are slightly worn. There are two closed, short tears along the bottom edge. There is slight foxing to the back side of the dust jacket. It does not show on the front however. It is price-clipped.
