Son unique question est peut-être : Qu'est-ce que la philosophie ? On peut dire de toute grande philosophie ce que Hegel disait de la philosophie de Descartes, à savoir que c'est " tout à son départ qu'elle reprend à nouveau la question ". Cette reprise initiale d'une même question apparaît chaque fois qu'elle est portée à la parole, comme ayant la portée d'une thèse sur l'être. C'est ainsi que, selon le mot de Valéry : " Penseurs sont gens qui re-pensent et qui pensent que ce qui fut pensé ne fut jamais assez pensé ". Mais ces thèses sur l'être, dont le début est grec, et qui, pendant plus de deux millénaires, a rempli l'espace d'une histoire dite de la philosophie, d'où tient-elle son commencement ? Et de là peut être son unité encore non pensée ? Commencer (entrer dans la question) et débuter (y prendre le départ) font deux. Dans tout début s'abrite l'énigme d'un commencement qu'il appartient au début de laisser dans l'ombre. Les Grecs sont, en philosophie, nos débutants. C'est à partir d'eux et d'eux seulement que philosophie il y a. Mais d'où ont-ils commencé ? D'où ont-ils été eux-mêmes commencés, c'est-à-dire initiés à leur propre début ?
