Becher, der in den Magen und Darm eines frisch getöteten Meerschweinchens "liquor plumbi sub acetici" einbrachte, um vermittels der größeren Absorption der Strahlen in dieser Substanz diese Organe auf dem Röntgenbild sichtbar zu machen. In derselben Arbeit untersuchte Becher die Durchlässigkeit anderer Salzlösungen und schloß, daß die Aufnahme z. B. eines menschlichen Magens in vivo nach Röntgen zur Voraussetzung habe, daß man eine Lösung herstellen könne, die "zwei Eigenschaften zugleich hat, nämlich, man muß sie, ohne Schaden zu stiften, in den menschlichen Magen einbringen können, zugleich muß sie noch für Röntgensche Strahlen undurchlässig sein". Becher fügte hinzu, daß eine solche Flüssigkeit unter Umständen auch bei der Lagebestimmung von Fistelgängen von Nutzen sein könne. In einer späteren Arbeit schlug er dann vor, die vorgenannte Substanz durch Kalkwasser zu ersetzen, glaubte aber dann, den Magen vielleicht noch besser auf dem Röntgenbild durch Füllen mit Luft sichtbar machen zu können. Diese letztere Methode wurde in etwas abgeänderter Form einige Wochen später von dem Ingenieur M.Lewy und von Prof. L. Grünmach erfolgreich verwandt. Diese Versuche erregten überall, auch im Auslande, das größte Aufsehen."
