When she is given a Bible she sees the error of her ways, is enabled to go to school in the country, becomes a teacher and is courted by a well off local farmer's son who's family refuses to allow their marriage. Later Carola has to return to the city to testify in the trial of a murder that she witnessed and she and the jew have to escape the wrath of the crowds. After further viscissitudes Carola decides to work in a hospital but meanwhile the farmer's son and family have been dispossed of their farm by the new owner and it is Carola who is sent to nurse the new landlord after an accident. With further misunderstandings finally resolved there is a final happy ending. 1 volume. Hardcover.
