Foreword: The Rydberg Centennial Conference on atomic spectroscopy was held in…the Physics Laboratory of the University of Lund during July 1 - 5.It was decided to confine the subject of the conference to atomic spectroscopy in the restricted sense of the word, thus excluding the extreme ends of the spectral region, X-rays and microwaves, as well as spectrochemical applications. The fact that the classical branches of atomic spectroscopy had for a long time not received the special attention of an international meeting made one feel that it would serve a useful purpose to bring together the group of people actively engaged in this field for reviewing its present status. The correctness of the assumption was borne out by the eager response to the invitation, which collected some 112 participants from 17 countries. The conference programme included 6 review papers and 55 contributed communications covering all main aspects of atomic spectroscopy. The publication has been divided into two parts, Part I containing the President's opening address and the 6 introductory papers in full, and Part II giving the abstracts of the contributed communications as they were available in mimeographed form at the conference or, in a few cases, as received furing or shortly after the meeting. As most of the papers in Part II are in any case being published in detail elsewhere, the restriction to abstracts in this publication would seem entirely excusable. It is regretted, on the other hand, that it has not been possible to reproduce here the enlightening discussion that invariably accompanied each paper. 108 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
