Limited, Toronto, this reprint edition, 1993, was published by The Friends of Algonquin Park. Second printing, stated. The story of an eight-day canoe trip in Algonquin Park that the author made with a Native Canadian guide in 1945.

Condition: Poor. The jacket is scuffed and worn to its edges. The book is well bound and fine ot read throughout, a decent enough copy but fairly tatty.

And how glad I was I did, because I soon found I was alone in the woods with a wit, an illiterate savant who spoke hardly a word that wasn't worth recording. I didn't like to take notes in his presence. I was afraid he'd either dry up or turn self-conscious and silly. So I had to keep retiring to the bush . . and there hastily scribble down as much of what he said as I could remember. . . These notes were turned into the MS for a book and then, when I'd finished, I learned that Joe Lavally was dead. It is in rough shape with chunks missing and stains, it is also very discoloured. Hard red cover has bumped corners and spine ends. It is stained in the corners and along the edges. Dust jacket is stuck to the back cover. Fore edge is tanned and stained. Inside pages is lightly tanned and some pages have a water stain.
