La temática de estas narraciones va desde los retratos de personajes típicos, míticos o históricos marroquíes, a la actualización de fábulas en la mejor tradición de la literatura oriental; de los recuerdos agridulces de la época del protectorado español a los cuentos de tradición oral fijados acaso por vez primera. Tan apasionante como el mundo que describen es el punto de vista de quienes lo hacen: colonizadores en buena medida colonizados por la riqueza de la cultura a la que se asoman.
