Paperback. 452 pp. Ills. - Ter gelegenheid van het afscheid van Jef Janssens als hoogleraar (docent oudere letterkunde en cultuurgeschiedenis) aan de Katholieke Universiteit Brussel. Dit huldeboek voor professor Jozef Janssens (KUB) mikt hoog. Alle bijdragen trachten geheel in de traditie van dit zwaargewicht binnen de Middelnederlandse letterkunde relatief gewaagde hypotheses te toetsen aan de werkelijkheid, en maken gebruik van andere disciplines als de antropologie en interculturele communicatie. De bundel vormt een mooi, wetenschappelijk verantwoord geheel. Wel zijn niet alle artikelen even aantrekkelijk, en zijn sommige auteurs te ver gegaan in hun 'avontuurlijk lezen'. Wanneer de onderzoeker na de bewijsvoering moet toegeven dat ze absoluut niet sluitend is om zijn standpunt te staven, levert dat toch een anticlimax voor de lezer. Niettemin is deze bundel zeker de moeite waard voor wie een een veelzijdig beeld op de Middelnederlandse literatuur wil krijgen. Het vergt wel enige inspanning om alle studies volledig te vatten.
