The current book described the architectural marvel that was the Zolotaryov-Kologrivov house, now the site of the town's local history museum. The Neoclassical masterpiece was built between 1805 and 1808 for the wealthy merchant Zolotaryov, son of a noted Kaluga silversmith and a descendent of traders in precious metals. The stunning interior design would be the work of the famous Moscow firm of S. P. Campioni.
