Contents fine. NOT ex-lib as many of these facsimiles are. A lovely clean facsimile! "Thomas Bilson was Bishop of Winchester, and a privy counsellor to Queen Elizabeth. As one of the principal maintainers of orthodox doctrine, the final revision of the translation of the Bible in the reign of James I, was committed to him. Fuller terms him a deep and profound scholar; and Sir John Harrington observes that his rising was merely by his learning, as true prelates should rise. This book was allegedly written at the command of Queen Elizabeth to justify her support of the Netherland's Revolt. Ostensibly it defends the doctrine of passive obedience but it was subsequently used in the 1640's by Parliamentary writers to justify opposition to Charles I". - Publishers and Straker's Catalogue (1834-35). Large tome will attract additional postage, especially overseas.
