Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First edition bound in vellum. Munich, 1647. Condition is Good. Primary condition issue is missing spine. Text block binding remains sound. Vellum boards with Yapp style fore-edges and typical vellum warp. Interior has modern stamp (R151) on interior front pastedown, ffep with pencil notation and older ink info, title page with old library stamp, prior ownership inscription dated 1699, half title has pencil note at bottom. No other interior markings or problems. Quite decent old paper remains supple. Paginates: [24], map, 480, [12] with original blanks. This is a small format book (12 mo) approximately 12.5 x 7 cm. See European Americana (EA) 647/28. EA 622/165 & 610/115 are related items. A cool old book with a 17th century map of the Americas. Please see images of the book you will receive. Feel free to inquire. Notes: Alden cites opinions that this is historical fiction based on Gobeo's shipwreck narrative of 1610. It does not read like that to me (I observe and make no claim to competence). This is a description of Central and South America complete with a large index of locations, events and authors. More notes: California is correctly drawn as a peninsula. Many maps of the era showed it as an island. See Tooley for more info on that.
