Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. 24mo; Unpaginated pages; Publisher's boards -- pale green with a textured "grain" -- lettered in German script. A well preserved copy of this fragile booklet, showing just a touch of wear along the spine and at the points of the corners, and a faint bit of toning ar…ound the edges of the boards. Fine and fresh inside, unmarked, with the original plain endpapers intact. Printed on stiff card stock, in fraktur type, with 10 color plates by the young artist Roswitha Bitterlich [born in 1920]. This is the first part of the fourth series of Roswitha Bitterlich's wonderful illustrated "Mit Roswitha ins Marchenland" [With Roswitha to Fairyland]. Between the ages of three and six, Roswitha is reported to have painted her first pictures, cut silhouettes, and finished a six-meter long fresco in her nursury. In 1932 she painted a miniature book for her brother, and had her first exhibition that same year in Innsbruck. The charming illustrated books followed, and her fame spread from Europe to London, where she had a show in 1938 (this London exhibition received a notice in 'Time' magazine which first brought her attention in the U.S.) The verso of the last leaf of this unpaginated small book has a list of other publications by Roswitha Bitterlich (seven items, including the "No. 4, Bd. 2" of the present work -- "Mit Roswitha ins Marchenland" -- priced at RM 1.30). The works and their prices make it abundantly clear that this volume dates from the mid 1930's rather than the post-war era. For the sake of identification (since the covers of this fourth series look alike) the text begins with the first illustration, titled: "Beim Mondenschein." See OCLC Number: 64471208.
