This work describes false automatons; devices that appear to move, think, and act of their own accord or by clockwork, but are instead controlled by some hidden apparatus or device operated by a conjurer or their assistant. Includes sections on Robert-Houdin, and the chess playing 'The Turk' of Wolfgang von Kempelen. Adolphe Blind was often referred to as 'Professeur Magicus'. Text in French.
