Few chips on the edges, and a circular hole near the top resulting in slight loss to a capital letter, otherwise a clean, virtually intact, well preserved delicate item. Sir Percy [ Florence ] Shelley ( 1819 - 1889 ) was the son and only surviving child of Percy Bysse Shelley and his second wife, Mary Shelley. In 1849 Sir Percy bought the Boscombe Manor Estate, a sizeable property of which Boscombe Cottage was part. Sir Percy intended that the cottage would become a home for his mother Mary Shelley, unfortunately she died in 1851 before moving in. The cottage was extensively rebuilt , and extended to include a theatre in which Sir Percy and his wife put on plays to entertain their friends. In 1866 Sir Percy built a new theatre attached to the house, after the death of Sir Percy and his wife the theatre saw many changes of use. It has recently been re-furbished and will open again as a theatre in 2012 as the Shelley Manor Theatre. This playbill is from the pre - 1866 theatre. COPAC ( on - line 01/12 ) does not trace any playbills from the Boscombe Theatre.
