"As a sculptor Anreith [1754-1822] employed all the features of baroque composition such as asymmetry, the use of the curve, the representation of movement, and the 'melodramatic gesture or the striking tableau' (De Bosdari). His training was in the late baroque and rococo in the West German Catholic tradition, and in the old German skill of wood-carving, and he was an able and competent exponent of the styles of this school. .
