Philippe Huger est né en 1958 à Toulon. Après un diplôme d'Arts Appliqués à l'École Duperré, il a longtemps travaillé dans la presse et la publicité comme illustrateur et roughman. Entre 1985 et 1989, il publie deux bandes dessinées : « En chaleur » aux éditions Régine Desforges et » Le Grand Rêve américain » aux éditions Souvenir du Futur. Mêlant Pop Art, comics américains des années 50 et l'imaginaire érotique de Russ Meyer, l'ouvrage est réalisé par un procédé habituellement réservé aux emballages industriels, dont le Pop Art et l'Art Conceptuel s'étaient déjà emparé dans les années 60, pour des évidentes associations avec le monde de la publicité, de l'économie de masse et l'imaginaire populaire. De nombreux artistes en usèrent : Gianni Bertini, Arman, Marcel Broodthaers, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hamilton, entre autres. Quite possibly the only "comic book" in its class, Le Grand Rêve Americain (The Great American Dream) adapts technology developed by Philippe Schléret and Véronique Hauss, using molded plastic to create brilliantly colored 3D images. The work exuberantly lampoons Pop Art, American culture, and early underground comic books. Of all who have ever encountered the work and written of it, seemingly none have failed to mention the heavy use of oversized female breasts that jut out from nearly every panel. (Indeed, OCLC record no. 712159856 lists "Large-breasted women" as one of the subjects.) Other tropes not to be ignored include fancy sports cars, gangsters, and fastfood joints.
