When the story begins, it is the Fourth of July and invasion of litterbugs is threatening at the beaches, parks and wooded areas. Mr. Litterfree and Miss Beautymore are delightful watch puppies who fight against the invasion of Toyland by the litterbugs. They are helped by Uncle Sam, Paul Parrot and Captain Wise Willie Pixup. Using the Jolly Lighthouse as a space ship the little crew travel to the moon for help. There the main in the moon welcomes them and Captain Willie Pixup joins them for the trip back to Toyland. Toland is made spic and span just in time for the fireworks. The pickup bugs did their part and the litterbugs ate enough Civic Pride Candy to make them join in the big pickup. Original finely ribbed green cloth, debossed border front cover, gilt Smithsonian emblem front cover, gilt lettering spine, TEG. Pretty much the same as the Doubleday first printing but with new title page and explanatory note from the publisher.
