'Before his death in 1959 Denis Devlin had completed his revision of his book "The Heavenly Foreigner". This revised text is now printed for the first time, together with the variant readings from the printed versions and some hitherto unpublished manuscript material which traces the development of the poem over a period of some 15 years.' Including a portrait of Devlin by Marcella Comes Winslow and a drawing by Anne Yeats. Spotted and dusty to the head edge, the spine head bumped, the half-title a little marked, and a couple of leaves inherently creased in part, but about Very Good in slightly lesser jacket, with an old price sticker over the printed price, moderately rubbed with a short split at the head edge of the upper panel, and the stock faded primarily to the spine and lower panel (not affecting the print). One of only 250 copies of the Irish poet's debut solo book of poems, printed for him and placed on sale at the Librairie Jeannette Monnier in Paris. The recipient, the late Sonya Schulberg O'Sullivan, was an author ("They Cried a Little") and the younger sister of the late novelist and screenwriter Budd Schulberg. Brian Coffey (1905-1995) lived in Paris in the 1930s and was part of a circle of Irish Modernist authors that included Samuel Beckett and Denis Devlin. Coffey's "Three Poems" followed a book of poems that he published in Dublin in 1930 with Denis Devlin. Aside from a few limited editions, signed copies of Coffey's works are scarce. CONDITION: Age toning to the wrappers, a split along the spine (although the wrappers are still attached), a partial ring stain to the rear wrapper, and some very light pencil underlinings and erasures.
